Tampa Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

After pregnancies or dramatic weight loss, you often find yourself with sagging, loose skin which does not respond to diet and exercise. Often times, to correct this issue you will need to have a tummy tuck to remove this excess skin. A tummy tuck is a cosmetic procedure which removes excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen to tighten the muscles in the abdomen wall. When done by a skilled, experienced surgeon like Dr. Luria, your skin can be restored to a more natural appearance. Dr. Luria has performed hundreds of tummy tuck procedures over the past twenty years at his Tampa Plastic Surgery Practice and would love to discuss the tummy tuck procedure in more detail during a consultation.

Dr. Luria believes the best candidates for a tummy tuck in Tampa are patients who are in relatively good shape but have large fat deposits or loose abdominal skin that won't respond to diet or exercise. It is also important that prospective patients have realistic expectations about what can be accomplished. If you plan to lose weight or have more children in the future, you should hold off on the tummy tuck procedure.

During your tummy tuck consultation, you will have a candid conversation with Dr. Luria about what you hope to achieve. Many times a patient who thinks they want a tummy tuck may be a candidate for a liposuction or need both procedures. He will examine your body and based on his expertise tell you what he feels is possible from the tummy tuck procedure. You should plan on spending 60 to 90 minutes in the office on the day of your appointment. Dr. Luria and his staff are always willing to spend as much time as necessary to make sure you feel comfortable with the procedure.

Before your tummy tuck consultation, take the time to view the Tampa Tummy Tuck Photo Gallery to review results that Dr. Luria has achieved. Remember, not all patients are the same, so the results may not all look alike. Dr. Luria also has many other before and after pictures to share with you in his office.

If you are a candidate for the procedure, Dr. Luria will explain whether he recommends, a full or a mini tummy tuck. The full tummy tuck includes an incision from your hip to hip just above the pubic region. An incision is then made to separate the belly button from the surrounding tissue. The skin is then separated from the abdominal wall all the way up to the ribcage, it is lifted to expose the muscles, which if separated are pulled and stitched together. The skin is then stretched down over the abdomen and any excess skin is removed. The belly button must now also be repositioned and sutured. Temporary tubes are used to drain any excess fluid from the body.

A mini tummy tuck is generally used if your stubborn areas fall in the lower abdomen area. If you have a small pouch below your belly button and do not have a lot of stretch marks, sagging skin, or a hooded belly button then you might be a candidate for the mini tummy tuck. To perform the mini tummy tuck, Dr. Luria uses a shorter incision along the abdomen above the pubic region. The belly button stays put but is pulled as the skin is stretched and tightened. The skin is only separated between the belly button and the incision on the lower half of the abdomen. The mini tummy tuck is not as extensive and the surgery and recovery period are typically shorter than a full tummy tuck.
